Fried Cabbage with Bacon Onion and Garlic

onion and garlic allergy

This is a family favorite that I include in every cookbook for my children when they move out and marry. It’s a colorful, flavorful dish with a lot of colors. It is highly addictive.

  • 6 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large head cabbage, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika

How to Make Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

Cook the bacon in a large stockpot over medium-high heat for 10 minutes, or until crispy. Cook, stirring constantly, until the onion caramelizes, about 10 minutes. Stir in the cabbage immediately and continue to cook and stir for another 10 minutes. Add salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and continue to cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

The aluminum foil keeps food moist, ensures even cooking, keeps leftovers fresh, and simplifies cleanup.
